Often, when a large amount of photos are loaded onto the computer from a memory card, there can be many duplicate or near duplicate photos which then overcrowd your folders, filling them with unnecessary extras. To solve this problem, there's VisiPics.
Visipics is a free program designed to search for duplicate photos on your hard drive with five different filters that change the criteria for selection of your duplicates by comparing images that are more or less the same.
However, this program goes a step further than simply checking for similar images. VisiPics also selects in which folders to search for and catalog photos. What's more, the program has an automatic setting that will tag any image that has a duplicate. This selection process allows the user to choose if they wish to keep the higher resolution version of the two photos (if they were images downloaded from the internet or received via e-mail).
Once VisiPics has found all available duplicate images, you are given the option to delete duplicate files while the program continues to scan your computer, without having to wait for the scan to end. All of the duplicates detected will appear with file information in a sidebar such as file name, format and size.
